Our Story

"Rooted and grounded in love."
Indian Paintbrush 🌿 Farm Sanctuary

The Anishinaabe belief is that healing and teaching are parallel.
Our mission is to help steward and guide individuals, and our society, towards a deeper respect for Aki (Mother Earth) and actively share in the responsibly to nurture all living things to ensure the future for the next seven generations.

The Sanctuary is currently a home for a variety of horses, goats, sheep, a potbellied pig, a cow, ducks, chickens, and turkeys. All have been surrendered or rescued from slaughter, abandonment, neglect or abuse.
We forge loving, therapeutic bonds between animals and humans that heal the heart and bring a smile. Non-traditional companion animals are some of the most loyal, loving souls.

We introduce and educate others to different animal species so they learn their daily habits, intelligence, and distinct personalities. Private tours are offered to hear the resident animal stories and how their life at the farm compares to a life in animal entertainment/sports, modern food systems, or large breeding facilities. We acknowledge that the best way to alleviate animal suffering, sustain the environment, and improve human health is to embrace a plant-based lifestyle.

We share indigenous knowledge to develop deeper relationships with animals and plants. A significant percentage of our land will always be designated as wildlife habitat for the protection and restoration of native species.

Our focus is on education, outreach, and collaboration. We offer a variety of internships, volunteering, and other opportunities to participate. We teach others how to grow their own food and create healthy recipes and easy meal plans together in our garden Harvest Room.

You're invited to learn the health benefits of a plant-based diet and organic, sustainable practices in our lush garden. Identify indigenous plants and their healing properties while foraging through our forest. Calm your mind and connect with nature with our forest bathing paths, preserve wildlife, Japanese rock garden, and workshops that include art, sound therapy, yoga, and meditation.

The Ojibwe believe that everything in the universe is contained and has its place within a circle. The circle is used to express the holistic nature of their culture and the cyclic nature of everything around them. The Indian Paintbrush hopes to inspire and foster others to paint a future as pure as the colors of the evening sunset.
